Prof. Peter JONKERS (25.02.1954)
Born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, he obtained a PhD in philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. Currently, he is full professor of philosophy at Tilburg University, the Netherlands (School of Catholic Theology). He teaches systematic philosophy, contemporary continental philosophy, metaphysics, and philosophy of culture. His current research interests focuses on questions regarding religious truth, tolerance, religious diversity, a philosophical exploration of (Christian) wisdom, the future of the Catholic Church, and classic German philosophy (in particular Hegel and his contemporaries).
He is member of the Advisory Board of the German Accreditation Agency for Canonical Study-programs (AKAST), member of the Board of the European Society for Philosophy of Religion, and member of the Steering Committee of FISP, the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie. He has been member/chair of several evaluation-teams for research in the humanities (Lithuania, Estonia, the Netherlands), and for the accreditation of study-programs in theology (Lithuania, Germany).
In 2004, the Holy Father invested him with Companion of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great.
